Custom Hot Air Balloon Lanterns for Large Event Displays
This custom hot air balloon lantern project was created for a large event installation, where multiple three-dimensional balloon decorations were mounted directly onto an expansive feature wall. The blue floral balloons extend outward from the surface, adding depth and creating a much stronger visual presence than a flat printed backdrop.
Adding Three-Dimensional Elements to a Large Event Wall
Large exhibitions, festival venues and temporary event spaces often use extensive backdrop walls or perimeter structures. Printed graphics can cover these surfaces, but the visual effect remains relatively flat.
For this project, large hot air balloon decorations were installed directly onto the wall. The balloon structures project outward from the surface, turning the backdrop into part of the physical installation.
Several balloons were positioned across different sections of the wall. Larger pieces created the main visual focus, while smaller balloon decorations extended the theme across a wider area.
Custom Balloon Designs Based on the Installation Space
Large decorative installations need to be designed around the actual site rather than treated as standard standalone products. Balloon size, projection from the wall, installation height and spacing between each structure all need to be considered during the design stage.
For this project, the balloon bodies were shaped with a wide upper section and a narrower lower profile, while decorative baskets were installed underneath to complete the three-dimensional appearance.
The blue surfaces were combined with large white, yellow and green floral patterns, allowing the balloons to remain visually striking even during daytime events.

On-Site Installation of Large Hot Air Balloon Decorations
Installation was an important part of this project. The large balloon structures were mounted at elevated positions across the event wall, with scaffolding and lifting equipment used to raise and position each decoration before it was secured in place.
Because the balloon bodies have a relatively large front-facing surface, workers carefully adjusted the upper, side and lower connection points to maintain the correct angle, alignment and overall appearance.
After the main structures were fixed, the exterior surfaces, decorative sections and basket positions were checked and refined. This type of installation is especially suitable for event walls and themed spaces where available ground area is limited.
Creating a Continuous Display with Multiple Balloons
A single oversized hot air balloon can work as a strong visual centerpiece, while multiple balloons can create a more complete installation across a long event wall.
In this project, the decorations were not treated as identical repeated elements. Larger balloon structures provided the main focal points, while smaller pieces extended the same visual theme across the venue.
This arrangement also makes the concept easier to adapt to different spaces. A shorter entrance wall may only require one or two large balloons, while exhibition perimeters and festival walkways can use additional pieces with different heights and spacing.
Custom Surface Graphics as Part of the Design
One of the most distinctive features of this project is the floral surface treatment. Instead of using traditional hot air balloon stripes, the entire balloon body was finished with a blue background and large floral graphics.
The decorative pattern was integrated into the overall three-dimensional structure rather than added as a small secondary detail.
Similar balloon installations can be customized with floral artwork, festival graphics, city-inspired patterns, themed colors or other project-specific visual elements, allowing the decoration to match the surrounding event design.
Hot Air Balloon Lanterns for Festivals and Public Spaces
Wall-mounted hot air balloon decorations can be used in locations where traditional freestanding lanterns may not be practical, including festival entrances, exhibition feature walls, commercial event backdrops, theme parks, public celebration spaces and temporary event structures.
Each project can be adjusted according to the available installation area. Balloon dimensions, surface colors, decorative patterns, basket styles, installation height, spacing and the number of individual balloon structures can all be customized for the site.
